ART PORTFOLIOS

Art portfolios are required for most major art schools and art majors. The purpose of an art portfolio is to display the artist's interest and artistic skills through their artwork. The portfolio is considered one of the most important components of an art school application, and its contents likely hold a large part in the artist's acceptance into their dream school.

EXAMPLES OF PORTFOLIOS

FINE ARTS

Fine arts include painting, sculpture, watercolor, drawing, and graphics. For a successful fine arts portfolio, it should display different fine arts techniques, creation processes and art forms.

PHOTOGRAPHY

A photography portfolio should demonstrate the photographer's understanding of exposure, white balance, and angles. The photos should be consistent in style and should not require much explaining for its inclusion in the portfolio.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Graphic design encompasses not only flat graphics, but also video animation, especially for company logos. It is important for a graphic design portfolio to demonstrate a wide range of skills and interests, including case study pieces as well as personal interest pieces.

ANIMATION

An animation portfolio should not only include an animated video, but also life-drawings, object-drawings, animal drawings, layouts for both indoor and outdoor settings, character design, hand drawings and storyboarding.
